Acres of Democrats Rally

Mark Herring, candidate for Virginia attorney general, spoke at the Acres of Democrats rally over Labor Day weekend.  He talked about the unity of the Democratic Party ticket on issues ranging from transportation, education, and creating jobs to make a strong Virginia.  He urged all to work on campaigns to support the candidates.

James Harder, candidate for the House of Delegates 12th District which covers Giles County, talked about his family history, coming from four generations of New River Valley farmers.  Mr. Harder laid out his plans to support education, farming, and job creation in order to strengthen the local economy and families in the region.

Giles County Democrats raised funds to purchase 8 of the large 3-candidate signs shown in the photo.  Already one is on Hwy. 100 and others will be showing up soon along the major highways.  If you would like to contribute,  look on the donate section to the right for instructions.

Why a Primary?

I have been asked why the Democrats are having a June 11 primary when the Democratic candidate for Governor, Terry McAuliffe, is uncontested.   That is true but the other offices are contested.   Aneesh Chopra and Ralph Northam are running for the Democratic nomination for Lt. Governor while Mark Herring and Justin Fairfax are both running for Virginia Attorney General.

As a voter, please be informed about your candidates.  The best way to get introduced to them is by studying their websites.  Click on the images on the right to go to their websites.  From there, you can friend them on Facebook which will tell you a little more about their campaign activities and the issues they care about.

Remember the June 11 Democratic primary is only about a month away!

The Giles County Assembled Democratic Caucus scheduled for this Saturday, May 4, has been cancelled.   I received only 2 applications  so that was less than the 5 needed to vote at a caucus.     Also, I plan to be at the courthouse from 11:30-noon Saturday in case anyone didn't get the message.

As I receive more information about the 9th Congressional District Democratic Party convention (May 25 in Abingdon) including candidate appearances, that information will be posted here Anyone can attend and we still have two delegate vacancies  to vote for candidates for the state central committee.

If you are interested in attending the convention or becoming a delegate, contact Joan at email JoanK48@gmail.com or phone 921-4055.
