Vote Democratic in 2012

5 Days to Go!

Our thoughts are with all those who have suffered during the super storm Sandy.  Hope the recovery is quick.

Above is a photo I took of some of our large campaign signs along 460 before the storm.  I took them down because I figured the wind was going to blow them down. I put them back up today.

Only 5 days to go....please check on your neighbors to see if they need help getting to the polls.  We can provide assistance--just let me ( know before Tuesday a.m.

The following notice will appear in the Virginian Leader this Wednesday:

Giles County Citizens:
It has come to the attention of both the Democratic and Republican Parties of Giles County that there have been numerous incidents of vandalism in regard to political party signs.  We, as chairs, of both political parties ask that you be respectful of each other's property. We can agree to disagree on the issues but we ask that you do not destroy political signs of either the Democratic or Republican parties.

9-11 Remembrance and Democracy

On this somber day, we should remember the victims of 9-11.  Osama bin Laden did not just attack our institutions of commerce, military and government but he also attacked democracy.    He is dead  thanks to our president and the military but we must never let those who want to destroy our freedom and democracy prevail.  We must renew our commitment to democracy by becoming informed on the issues and our candidates.

The Giles County Democratic Party Caucus scheduled for this Saturday, April 21, has been cancelled. The reason for the cancellation is that the number of applications for delegates submitted equaled the number of positions available so an election is not necessary.

Giles County Democratic Party Caucus April 21

The Giles County Assembled Democratic Caucus will be held on April 21 at 12:00 noon in the Giles County Courthouse Courtroom, 501 Wenonah Avenue, Pearisburg, VA 24134. Candidates for delegates and alternates must file by April 16 by 5:00 p.m. The filing fee is $25. The Giles County Democratic Party Caucus will elect 5 delegates and 1 alternate for the 9th Congressional District Democratic Convention (May 19 at New River Community College) and the Virginia Democratic Party Convention (June 2 in Fairfax). The top five vote getters will be the delegates and the person receiving the 6th number of votes shall be the alternate. Tie votes will be broken by the flip of the coin.

Obama for President; promising to not support any Republican against any Democratic Candidate in the 2012 elections; and 4) being a registered voter in Giles County.

The Caucus doors will open at 11:30 a.m. so that participants may complete the Declaration Forms and take their seats in the caucus room. The Caucus Room doors will close at 12:00 noon and only those participants already in line and the caucus workers will be allowed entry after that time. The process is more completely explained in the Call to Caucus below.

Come early and be prepared to participate in the Democratic process.

9th Congressional District Democratic Party Candidates

Our March 17 meeting was successful with 18 people attending. We heard from 9th Congressional District candidates.

Jim Worth spoke first....

Then, Anthony Flaccavento...

Both candidates answered some tough questions on foreign policy, veteran affairs, energy, economic development, social security as well as campaign strategies.Everyone seemed excited about the two candidates.

Next, the Giles County Democratic Party will have a caucus on April 21 to elect delegates to the 9th Congressional District Convention to be held on May 19. It's important because the delegates at the Convention will select the candidate for the 9th Congressional District. Look for details in the April 11 issue of the Virginian Leader.
